Koh Phangan is located in the Gulf of Thailand, a quick 45 minute boat ride from big sister Koh Samui which has a charming island style domestic airport. To get to koh phangan you can follow one of three options. The most convenient is to fly to Koh Samui from locations such as Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi, a route serviced by a choice of domestic airlines.
From Samui airport by taxi to Big Buddha Pier is an approximate 30 minute drive depending on traffic conditions. There is a ticket booth at Big Buddha Pier from where the Haadrin Queen Ferry covers the route to Haadrin Pier in Koh Phangan. Haadrin being one of two primary villages on Phangan. The other option is to take the Seatran Ferry from Samui's Bangrak Pier. The most convenient way of booking your trip and certainly also the most comfortable ride will be booking with the Lomphraya High Speed Catamaran company which have their own pier in Nathon Koh Samui and also their own pier in Tongsala Koh Phangan, the island's second primary village. If you are however booking luxury accommodation like private pool villas with us chances are arrangements could be made for the resort to pick you up from the pier in air conditioned comfort, or in their own boat for transfer from the pier to your resort.
Should you not be flying to Samui and want to keep things cheaper, ferries leave from Don Sak Pier near the town of Surat Thani and stop by Koh Tao along the way before docking at Tongsala Pier in Phangan. You can either take a train from Bangkok and places like Hua Hin to Surat Thani and transfer from Surat Thani by Taxi to Don Sak Pier or Alternatively you could also buy a combination train and ferry ticket. Surat Thani also has a small domestic airport and flying here from Bangkok is also cheaper than flying to Koh Samui direct. Again you can buy a combination flight ferry and bus ticket for transfer from Surat Thani airport to Donsak Pier all in one.
Finally, if time is not too much of an issue you could take the bus from Bangkok or places like Hua Hin to Chumporn with the Lomphraya High Speed Catamaran company. The journey from Bangkok to Chumporn takes approximately 7 hours and from Hua Hin 5 hours. You will spend approximately one hour at Chumporn Pier before leaving on the 3 hour boat journey to oh Phangan. Any transfers with the Lomphraya company you book online on their website in advance.
