By Air

A tropical island styled airport with daily flights from all major hubs will welcome you with the most charming design. Flights are available from all major hubs such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Krabi. Air Asia, Thai Airways and Bangkok Air all fly the route from the different mentioned locations. Upon your arrival taxis will also be available for transfer to your beach resort or hotel.

Combining Air, Bus and Boat

A cheaper option to consider for those of us on a budget is to fly to the small domestic airport of Surat Thani. This way your flight ticket will be much cheaper. At Surat Thani buses will waiting to connect you to Don Sak Pier from where you will travel by ferry to Samui. Once again taxis will be waiting at the pier to transfer you to your place of accommodation. You can buy a combined ticket for your flight, bus and boat transfer at a kiosk at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. Alternatively, simply buy your bus and boat ticket at Surat Thani Airport. Boat tickets can also be bought at the pier.

Combining Bus and Boat

Both luxury tour buses depart from Bangkok's Ekemai bus station and other major hubs such as Hua Hin, Phuket and Krabi and will travel to one of two piers. Either Don Sak in Surat Thani or to Chumpon Pier which is located a little more north of Surat Thani. If you are traveling from Phuket your bus will be heading for Surat Thani. If you are traveling from Bangkok, your bus will pass Hua Hin where it will pick up other passengers and then proceed for another 5 hours and 30 minutes to Chumpon Pier and from here you will travel by boat. The boat's first stop will be the island of Koh Tao to drop off passengers here, the Koh Phangan and then Samui. Should you be arranging your own transfers, we suggest you utilize the services of the Lomphraya Tour Company which provides both your bus and boat transfers. The entire journey from Bangkok to Chumpon takes approximately 10 hours and the last leg by boat approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Combining Train and Boat

From Bangkok's Hualampong train station, over-night trains travel to Surat Thani, again stopping in Hua Hin should you need to get on here. The journey takes approximately 12 hours. This is a cheap and convenient option since you also do not waste any day time traveling. From Surat Thani station you will need to arrange taxi transport to Don Sak Pier where you can buy your ferry ticket across to Koh Samui.
