Approaching the lobby a larger than life surf board hanging above a water wall leaves no doubt about this yuppie hotel's theme. Sugar Marina Surf Phuket is located in Kata Beach offering stylish, yet affordable accommodation. If you do indeed like to ride the swell, or just to soak the sun watching others do it you can walk down to the beach in less than 10 minutes, passing by restaurants, pubs and chilled-out evening hang-outs. For the novice surfer dude there are artificially created waves to ride at the land based Surf House before you attempt the real deal.
The accommodation and most facilities is centered around the pool displaying a compass on the bottom shining brightly at night when the pool is lit up. A gym complete with kick boxing bag, modern cardio machines and free weights overlook the pool through floor to ceiling windows, as does the lobby, internet corner and restaurant. The hotel conveniently also offer transport services in a cabriolet VW which can only do your image good. Wi-Fi is freely available through-out the hotel and small extras like laundry service and a tour desk come in handy.
The rooms, which include a pool access room allowing you to take the plunge from your private terrace, are all 35 sq.m with rooms on higher floors featuring private balconies teetering over the pool. These are comfortably appointed, elegantly furnished with beautiful couches, a choice of king or twin beds, chrome wall mounted bed lamps, and of course a surf board against the wall creating just the right contrast. With a bathroom featuring a walk-in shower and separate tub the clever room lay-out makes it possible to soak while keeping an eye on the TV.
